Leveraging AWS for Enhanced Scalability and Performance: Tessolve Semiconductor’s IT Transformation

Manufacturing

Solution background
Solution Overview

Tessolve Semiconductor Pvt Ltd, a major player in the VLSI application sector, initially ran operations from their data center. While the company could manage and deliver projects on time at its initial stages, their growth presented new challenges. As the company expanded and took on more projects with varied requirements, the IT infrastructure failed to scale accordingly. This resulted in project delays due to infrastructural modifications for each project, and shortage of data storage for archiving from each project and holding them for 7-10 years. Additionally, the company struggled with setting up development and QA environments due to lack of IT infrastructure, impacting their hybrid work environment – some employees working from home while others from office.

Business challenges
Quadra at Work

Our Quadra AWS team recommended the Scale-out Computing solution on AWS to Tessolve which would provide a multiuser environment for their computationally intensive workflows for computer aided engineering (CAE). This solution offered a wide range of computer resources, a high-speed network backbone, scalable storage, and integrated budget and cost management features within AWS. The solution made use of Desktop Cloud Visualization (DCV) graphical sessions, enabling users to easily access the cluster for pre- and post-processing visualization actions.

To securely migrate a large amount of data stored in NFS between the data center and Amazon Elastic File System, Quadra’s AWS team utilized Amazon DataSync. Our certified consultants employed AWS Application Migration Service to migrate applications from the On-premises infrastructure to Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). Quadra’s AWS team deployed the AWS CloudFormation template using a custom installer for production environments. This template deployed an eight-component architecture including: Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling, Amazon Elastic File System (Amazon EFS), Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon EC2, 2D or 3D Workstations using NICE DCV, Security services and resources, AWS Lambda functions, Amazon OpenSearch Service cluster, and Elastic Load Balancing with Cost Allocation Tags available alongside the AWS Cost Explorer.

Business Benefits Realized

The transformation to the AWS cloud led to optimized scalability, real-time analytics, smarter integrations, reduced cost, and enhanced custom code and automation. The solution served as a ready-to-use reference for deploying an AWS environment for running scale-out workloads.

Solution overview
Quantifiable Outcomes

The transformation to AWS presented Tessolve with numerous measurable benefits:

  • Data from each project was securely stored for future analysis, highlighting the benefit of storage scalability.
  • Replication lag time reduced from 10-15 seconds to 0.3 seconds using AWS DataSync.
  • We achieved a 90% decrease in downtime by deploying Highly available architecture
  • Centralizing and improving data availability led to a 20x faster time-to-market.
  • We reduced infrastructure management time by 40%.
  • Implemented flexible Anywhere and Anytime access to Design engineers which increases the productivity by 1.5x
  • We enhanced security through two-factor authentication with integration of Google Authenticator and centralized log-in using Microsoft Active directory services.
  • We have noted a 3x improvement in by completing the EDA simulations compared to the on premises solution.
