Manufacturing
A large and diversified business house from peninsular India, our customer is into manufacturing and marketing a diverse range of agricultural products. They produce, market and sell organic and bio fertilizers and seeds. They also manufacture pesticides, insecticides, fungicides and the like. They have a huge market with agents and distributors all over the region. Business data generated gets stored in a centralized location. Their production databases are in an industry standard commercial database. This data is critical for production, analysis and decision making, and the data volume runs into terabytes of data in local storage systems. But there was no scalable backup infrastructure for this DBMS. There were 400+ users accessing data, and any outage or data loss would prove disastrous. An on-premises backup solution would cost them several million rupees of upfront investment. Adding on a disaster recovery service would cost them even more in capex investments. The need of the hour for our customer was a cost-effective but scalable data backup and DR solution.
With multiple competencies across multiple cloud platforms, Quadra has been able to provide customers across multiple verticals with reliable and scalable backup and DR solutions on the cloud. Our cloud consultants started with a thorough study of our customer's DB environment. After detailed discussions, we suggested a cloud based data backup solution as that would provide them the best balance between their scalability and reliability needs, while still providing them a zero capex, all-opex payout model. We suggested on of the industry leading cloud solutions for the customer’s requirements, based on the ability of the provider to meet their specific needs when it came to backing up their commercial database solution. Our technical engineers set up a PoC for the customer to validate their business use cases, as well as gain familiarity with the solution. We used scripts for automation, along with database agents to backup data efficiently to the cloud.
With the move to the cloud, our customer is now able to achieve lower RPO/RTO for their production database. This also enabled them to avoid any working capital lock in with an expensive on-premise solution. With guaranteed SLAs and uptime metrics, the customer’s IT team now had peace of mind against any possible data loss situation. This solution also offset the need for a dedicated DR, which was another key cost saving exercise. The end user experience has been seamless with this hybrid model, and there have been no documented instances of data loss or leakage.
