Our customer is one of India’s most admired and loved lifestyle brands. They have been the forerunners in demonstrating how a homegrown brand could stand head sand shoulders above international names when it comes to quality and aspirational value. Over the years, they have established a special place in the hearts of Indian consumers, with evocative advertisements and innovative positioning. They have also expanded the brand to several additional product categories and seen success with every venture. With more than ten thousand IT users in the enterprise and expanding, they were in need of a world-class security right at the entry point for all internet traffic, be it apps, mails or file shares. While they did have legacy systems to safeguard the networks from malicious attacks, spam mails and cyber threats, they were allying in silos at their various data centres, increasing the clutter and the need to manage them with skilled administrators located in different geographies. Applying policies uniformly across the system was a challenge and was making the system vulnerable for outsider attacks. They were not able to achieve some key business requirements, such as traffic-based load balancing and auto scaling.
When the customer approached us with their requirement for ingress traffic management with world-class security, our Cyber Security team suggested that they move away from their current on-premise deployment, and set up their firewall in the cloud with load balancing and auto scaling. We recommended one of the leading solutions in the industry, hosted on the most popular hyper scale cloud provider. Our consultants diligently mapped current and future needs to technology features. This gave the customer confidence to invest in the proposed solution. Our team deployed the cloud based virtual machine firewalls in active-active mode in an auto scaling group. We also configured the internet traffic routes, studied the application traffic and implemented the GWLB. We showed them how a new firewall would spin up automatically when the firewall usage goes high. We also demonstrated how the internet traffic balanced between different firewalls. Now, irrespective of the location of the user, the public cloud-based firewall solution functioned effectively for the global user population. A centralized management of the system was achieved for simplifying the efforts of adding or modifying the policies to redefine traffic.
Of all the solution that an enterprise needs, security remains the most foundational and essential one for safeguarding the users from any threats. Our customer addressed this fundamental need by allowing us to deploy a cloud-based firewall solution. The deployed solution will help them to inspect all the application ingress traffic, fine-tuned as per the policies created. The customer now had access to high-level inspection capability for multicast and simultaneous traffic flow. The load balancing feature helped in smooth flow of incoming traffic, easily distributing it to multiple firewall VMs that remain active in the system. With auto scaling, any surge in traffic would be easily handled. Being hosted on the public cloud, they could also optimize cost as they only needed to pay for what they used. This also made for centralized, continuous monitoring and management of policies, reducing the workload of the info sec teams. Valuable IT management bandwidth can now be devoted to improving customer focused tasks, as they are now freed from routine day to day management issues and security concerns.
